Mr. Pema Jungney s/o Late Mr. Lobsang Tenpa & Late Mrs. Yangchen Lhamo was born at Ruthok dzong, Tibet in 1959 and now lives in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh. After his schooling in CST Kalingpong and Shimla, he has joined Central University of Tibetan Studies in Varanasi where he studied Tibetan Buddhist philosophy, Tibetan language, english, hindi and sanskrit. He has obtained Shastri, Acharya and B.Ed degrees from the above mentioned University. During the course of his studies at the University, he has shouldered different responsibilities such as Secretary and Accountant of Sakya Student Union(twice), Proctor of the students and was a member of local Tibetan Election Commission. After completing his studies, he has worked as a teacher in the Sakya Centre Rajpur, India for more than two years and also taught at Bir New Tibetan School for the newly arrived youths on the regulation from the Department of Education, CTA for about two years.In 1988, he was elected from the Sakya Sect to the 10th TPIE. Then in 1991 he was re-elected as a representative from the Sakya Sect to the 11th TPIE. During this period, he has shouldered the main responsibility of bringing out the first Parliament Journal in Tibetan for several years as well as officially visited Bhutan respresenting the CTA. In 1993, he visited Prutugal to attend a workshop on Liberalism and also served as a member of Pre-Budget Review Committee and Public Account Committee of the TPIE for two consecutive years. In 1997, he was re-elected to the 12th TPIE from the Sakya Sect and served as member of Standing Committee as well as Chairman of several committees of the Parliament. Besides, he was also member of Special Committee on Foreign Contribution and Selection Committee for best staff award.Again, Pema Jungney was elected to the 13th TPIE representing the Sakya Sect in 2002. during this period, he served as the Speaker of the Parliament. He made several official visits to Brussels, Czech Republic, Italy, England, Holland, Switzerland and Scotland.In 2006, he was re-elected as a representative from the Sakya Sect to the 14th TPIE. He served as a member of Standing Committee for two and half years and has been chairman of Pre-Budget Review Committee and Public Account Committee. He is presently the chairman of drafting committee for 50 years of Tibetan Democracy in Exile. During this period, he has travelled once to England on an MP Exchange Programme.In short, he is the longest serving member of Parliament since His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama granted Democray to Tibetan people and has served the Tibetan Community in Exile for more than 27 years.Published/Campaign by Volunteers of Tibetan Nationalist Youth Group
